Memorial portraits

A memorial portrait from a favorite photo.

When someone you love is gone, a single photograph can carry a lifetime. We paint it into a dignified legacy portrait — for the service, for the family, and for the generations ahead.

Custom painted memorial portrait created from a family photograph

Honoring someone you love

A memorial portrait is often ordered in the days after a loss, but it stays with a family for generations.

For the service

Displayed on an easel at a funeral or celebration of life, a painted portrait gives guests a warm, dignified focal point.

For the family

The finished file is yours to print as many times as you like, so children, siblings and grandchildren can each keep a copy.

For the years ahead

A thoughtful sympathy gift, or a family heirloom to mark a birthday or anniversary of a passing and celebrate a life well lived.

From snapshot to memorial portrait

Many memorial portraits begin with an ordinary photo — an old print, a casual snapshot, a picture taken years ago. Hover over (or tap) a painting to look closer.

Choosing the photo

A clear, well-lit photo with a visible face works best — and the face matters more than the setting. Black-and-white, old, faded, or imperfect photos may also work, though the final quality depends heavily on the source. If you are unsure, send the best one you have: we review it before any payment is due and will tell you honestly whether it is good enough to work from.

When there's a date to meet

If the portrait is for a service, mention the date in the notes on the order form. Turnaround is usually about 3–5 days; for anything sooner, rush orders may be available for an additional 50% — ask first so we can confirm.

  1. Send the photo and the date

Upload your photo and tell us who it is for and when you need it. No payment is due yet.

  2. Approve a proof

You see a preliminary proof before anything is finished, and can request changes.

  3. Print, share or frame

Receive a high-quality file by email, suitable for prints up to 16" × 20", or order framing through our Fine Art America gallery page.

Memorial portrait questions

Can it be ready in time for a memorial service?

Turnaround is usually about 3–5 days after we receive your photo and order details. If the service is sooner, rush orders may be available for an additional 50% — please contact us first with the date so we can confirm timing before you order.

Will an old, faded or black-and-white photo work?

Often, yes. Black-and-white, old, faded, or imperfect photos may work, but final quality depends heavily on the source image. Send the best photo you have, and we will let you know whether it is good enough to work from before any payment is due.

Can family members have their own copies?

Yes. The finished image file belongs to you, and you may make as many prints as you want, so every family member can have a copy. The file is suitable for enlargements up to 16 × 20 inches.

Can you paint a couple, such as both parents together?

Yes. A two-person remembrance portrait is $249. More than two people is not recommended, because larger groups reduce detail, intimacy and overall impact.

Can I see it before it is finished?

Yes. You receive a preliminary proof for approval before the final artwork is completed, and you can request changes at that stage.
